Markarian’s Chain

Galaxy Cluster

Markarian's Chain is a stretch of galaxies located in the Virgo Cluster, easily visible through binoculars or small telescopes under dark skies. Messier 87, seen near the bottom, is a giant elliptical galaxy, approximately 53 million light-years from Earth. Renowned for its supermassive black hole, captured in the first-ever direct image by the Event Horizon Telescope.
